Mauro Lastrico, PT

Trained in the Mézières Method at the Centre Mézières, Noisy-sur-École, Paris (1988–1989), under the direct teaching of Françoise Mézières.

Co-founder and Training Director of AIFIMM (1996). Instructor in Mézières Method and systemic and segmental musculoskeletal biomechanics since 1997.

Author of Musculoskeletal Biomechanics and the Mézières Method (3rd printing, 2023) and co-author of Systemic and Segmental Musculoskeletal Biomechanics — Principles of Applied Physics for Clinical Practice (forthcoming 2026).

"When I came back from Paris I had a very powerful therapeutic tool in my hands. It worked, but I did not fully understand why. Mézières was a genius with a strong personality who spoke mostly in aphorisms and metaphors, without explaining much of the path that had led her there. But you could sense real substance behind it, rooted in physics and mathematics.

That mattered to me — I work better as a therapist when every step is clear. So I involved two friends, a physicist and an engineer. Together we analyzed every single claim Mézières had made, and everything she had said was supported by physical and mathematical laws.

That is how my work began: giving order to that body of knowledge. It led to the teaching method I use today — where I try to present the model following a logical thread — and to the book I published, which serves as the theoretical reference for the course.

I have dedicated my entire professional life to this work: studying it, teaching it, and above all trying to move it beyond the aura of 'magic' and empiricism that characterized it in the past, and to place it among the evidence-informed techniques of contemporary clinical practice.

If I can claim one contribution, it has been this: the rationalization of its content and its scientific foundation."

Hospital physiotherapist (1981–1996), then private clinical practice from 1996 to present.

AIFIMM instructor in Mézières Method and systemic and segmental musculoskeletal biomechanics since 2003.

"When I learned I had been accepted by Françoise Mézières for one of her training courses, it was the realization of a dream. At the time I was working in a hospital, and caring for patients with motor, respiratory, and cardiological problems was deeply rewarding. But I was increasingly drawn to the news arriving from France about a revolutionary therapeutic method.

I read everything available, attended the rare seminars, and finally reached France — where I encountered a brilliant mind who opened mine considerably. There I met Mauro Lastrico for the first time, and it was surprising to discover that, years apart, we had followed parallel professional paths: he in Genova, I in Rome, both making the Mézières Method our exclusive clinical tool.

Through intensive use, I came to appreciate not only its undeniable clinical effectiveness, but how fundamental proprioceptive body communication is during its practical application. Words, touch, mental images, body awareness become indispensable tools for guiding the patient through the complexity of the therapeutic process — to the point where I cannot help insisting on these elements with my students as well.

Being part of AIFIMM's work — with scientifically rationalized content and teaching adapted to contemporary standards — is a challenge I am passionate about: the opportunity to contribute to preserving and transmitting a precious legacy of clinical insight and knowledge."
